Script Consulting

A one-to-one script reading and feedback service to take your play to the next level.

Could you do with some feedback on your play? Are you stuck on how to improve your first draft? Or are you polishing up a script to submit to a theatre? Well, did you know that London Playwrights’ Blog offers a script consulting service where you can receive detailed feedback from a member of our experienced team?

When it comes to getting feedback, we know that there’s no one size fits all, so we’ve recently updated our services to offer more options and to try to be as accessible to as wide a range of writers as possible. We’ve also worked hard to keep the cost of our services down whilst ensuring we are able to pay a fair wage to those involved . Our services are open to writers of all levels.

Why us?

We’re all playwrights ourselves so we know how important constructive feedback is for developing our work but with so few resources,  we also we know how hard it is to come by.  Plus, we’re clued up on what kind of feedback sends you running to your laptop fueled with inspiration and the kind that makes you want to bang your head against a brick wall.

Between us, we’ve got lots of experience: we’ve worked as playwriting tutors at RADA, read scripts for Theatre 503, the Bush, the Finborough and the Old Red LionAs writers, we’ve had worked performed at the Birmingham Rep, Soho Theatre, RADA, Southwark Playhouse, Theatre503, Rose Theatre Bankside, The Globe, and the Tristan Bates Theatre, to name but a few!

We love plays, we love theatre and we love writing – so rest assured that your play is going to get read by someone who is genuinely interested and passionate about developing plays.

Our Services

Full Script Consulting Service

Often, feedback is the most useful when you can ask questions, bounce ideas around and discuss particular areas of concern, and in our full script consulting service, you get to do exactly this! Feedback will be delivered in the form a 90 minute Skype (or phone) session and you’ll also get a written follow up report so you don’t have to worry too much about taking notes during the session.

Written Report Only

Sometimes, you just need to see some feedback down on paper and for those who’d rather work through notes on their own rather than embarking on a discussion, this option is perfect.  You’ll get a detailed 2 page report from one of our experienced consultants which will address everything you need to redraft your play.

First 10 Pages & Premise Report

If you’re hoping to submit your play to a competition or theatre, those first few pages are crucial in grabbing the attention of a reader. You'll get detailed feedback and tips on how to polish them to perfection. You’ll also get feedback on your premise and how successfully you set up your ideas within your first 10 pages. Along with your script, you’ll need to send us a one-page outline of your idea (think plot breakdown rather than marketing blurb!) so we can give you feedback on how your concept holds up and how we see your play developing.

First 10 Pages & Premise Report

If none of the options above suit your needs or you’re looking for a consultant to work with on a regular basis, please email us to discuss how we can help!  Hours must be agreed and paid for upfront. Contact us for more details.

Script Consulting
Please include number of drafts, details of any workshops or readings or anything else you feel is relevant
1. I certify that I am over 18 years old.   2. I understand that I will receive feedback on one draft of one script, and any additional script consulting work will be commissioned and payable separately. 3. I understand that feedback will consist of one 90 minute Skype conversation and a set of written follow up notes from the reader. Any further feedback will be commissioned and payable separately. 4. I understand that it is not possible to submit any amendments or ‘rewrites’ to the script once the reading process has begun, as this creates an unfair additional amount of work for the London Playwrights’ Workshop’s readers.   5. I am aware that it is not possible to receive a refund after the work is undertaken and the reading process has begun. 6. London Playwrights’ Workshop reserves the right to review all applications and to select clients, ensuring this service is appropriate for their needs. There is no binding agreement to undertake script consulting work until an invoice has been sent and payment is made.

What happens next

Once we’ve received your form, we’ll be in touch to request payment and your full script (if required).  We’ll then assign you to one of our script consultants who will arrange a time frame for the work to be completed. If you are planning on redrafting to a deadline, please let us know so that we can confirm we are able to accommodate this.

The fine print/T&C’s:

  • We can only work with writers aged 18 and older.
  • The fee will be payable via debit or credit card using our secure payment provider, Stripe. We’ll email details of how to pay on receipt of your application form.
  • We’ll get you scheduled in and start the reading process as soon as we’ve received your payment.

  • No refunds can be processed once you have sent your script to London Playwrights’ Workshop.

20 % discount for followup sessions: Our service is designed to ensure that you have all the information you need to take your play forwards after one script consulting session.  However, we also recognise that some people prefer to be supported through more than one draft; in this instance, a reduced fee is available since there is a bit less work involved for the reader, who is already familiar with the world of your play.

We look forward to supporting your work!
